They either have low amounts of pollen or are pollinated by insects rather than by the wind.
As Squire’s explain: ‘If a flower is wind pollinated, the pollen is designed to be buoyant and it stays in the air a lot longer, which can cause hay fever symptoms including sneezing, a runny nose, and itchy watering eyes.'”
